Fairhaven Long Term Care Home

Peterborough, Ontario

The Ontario Ministry of Health designated the existing 253 bed Fairhaven Long-Term Care facility as a category “D” facility. That meant that they would have to build a new facility to meet the current design guidelines. Unity Design Studio performed the initial analysis studies and then were awarded the contract to design the facility. On the same site as the existing building, this new 168,000 sq. ft. facility has eight self-contained “Resident Home Areas” (RHA’s) each with 32 beds, associated serveries, dining rooms, lounges, etc. Two of the RHA’s have been designed for residents with dementia. The core area of the building contains the administration, a chapel, multipurpose room, physiotherapy space, a café and services.
