Peterborough Animal Care Centre

Peterborough, Ontario

The 24,450 sq.ft. Peterborough Animal Care Centre is one of Canada’s most advanced animal care facilities. The building incorporates three functions under one roof: the Peterborough Humane Society, the Ontario SPCA Provincial Rehabilitation Facility, and a Regional Spay/Neuter Clinic.  The Dog Rehabilitation Facility will bring dogs from across the province to Peterborough for behavioural and physical rehabilitation using the building’s shared assessment rooms, hydro-treadmill and hydrotherapy pool.

This facility has been designed to meet the Canadian Standards of Care in Animal Shelters, with larger animal housing spaces grouped into smaller pods for better noise and infection control and a medical-grade mechanical system.  Careful consideration has also been given to the durability of finishes, which must be able to handle chewing, scratching and animal wastes.

A blurred individual walks in front of the reception desk through the main lobby. Comfy blue chairs sit around a small circular table on the left.
A large concrete outdoor patio space for employees. Red adirondack are scattered over the patio, there are multiple gardens with blooming flowers.
A blurred individual walks across the far end of a hallway. Along one side of the hallway glass windows show different cats up for adoption.
A blurred individual is busy working in a small kitchen space. A bag of dog food sits in a bing at her feet.
A large field is fenced in different sections for dogs to play. The animal care centre sits on the far side of the field. The sky has a few clouds but is bright blue regardless.
