The new McDonnel Street Activity Centre provides the Peterborough Lawn Bowling Club and the Whitlaw Mariners Seniors Club with a much-needed, year-round facility. The building has two large assembly rooms, two boardrooms, a commercial kitchen, a locker room, a library and computer room.  The basement assembly room is equipped with shuffleboard courts and dartboards.

It was important that the building vernacular promote the function of the clubs it serves. As such, a large veranda becomes the focal point of the building addressing itself to the lawn bowling greens and providing a place for spectators to sit and watch on beautiful summer days. The veranda also provides a secondary usable space when the hall is rented for weddings and events.

The material palette of the building is rich and warm to help promote a sense of inclusion for the members and guests.
