New View Homes

Bowmanville, Ontario

This is a 65,000 sq. ft., five-storey, 75-unit affordable housing development services the needs of the Durham Region. There are 70 single bedroom suites, 5 double bedroom suites and 18 of the suites are barrier-fee. Each of the suites feature a Juliet balcony, with views overlooking Lake Ontario and downtown Bowmanville.

This project includes a variety of interior amenity spaces, such as a library, common laundry room, dedicated pet washing station, bicycle/scooter storage, dedicated tenant storage, and a large multi-purpose room with a full kitchen for community events and family dinners. The multi-purpose room leads to an outdoor patio and seating areas with connections to vegetable and flower gardens for specific cultivation by the residents. A large portion of the property was donated to the Town of Clarington to develop into parkland. Barrier-free paths connect to an existing municipal park, playground and adjacent residential neighbourhood.

The project included many stakeholders as there was funding through the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Region of Durham and Unity worked with the municipality to develop the park and trail connections. The building was occupied in late 2019 and has been fully occupied since opening.
